Movie Review : There's a decent film hiding somewhere in the concept that makes up The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. It runs about 90-95 minutes and presents a story where the actors read their lines as if they gave a damn and want you to believe the things they are saying. Instead we get the 121-minute lifeless equivalent of a filmed table reading with each actor reading their lines aloud and nonchalantly flipping through the pages, anxious for a smoke break. Toss in a few flashbacks, CG werewolves and a couple of action scenes to make it look like they tried and roll credits.In the process of making a billion dollar franchise it would seem the furthest thing from the filmmakers' interest with the Twilight franchise is to make a film everyone can enjoy and Eclipse is simply the latest example. A script rewrite, no matter how necessary, seems unheard of, considering it would just delay production and profit. And who can blame them? It's worked so far why change now?Eclipse has got all the long-winded line reading you can ask for, trumping up a melodramatic love triangle and the promise of a vampire/werewolf battle only to add zero tension or intrigue on the way to the film's inevitable climax.

As fans and Burger King commercials debate over Team Edward and Team Jacob, so must Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). Making for the majority of the film's running time Bella pines for the vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), begs him to take her virginity and hides a buried love for the predominantly shirtless werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Bella and Edward play a verbal tug-of-war, her wanting to become a vampire and him wanting her hand in marriage before that's to happen. As for Jacob he takes a more direct approach and forces himself on Bella because he "knows" she loves him. He's more of a man of action it would seem.

Meanwhile, the red-haired vampire villain from the first Twilight film, Victoria (now played by Bryce Dallas Howard), is back and building a vampire army. Her sights are set on killing Bella in order to get revenge on Edward for killing her beloved James. Victoria gets about five minutes of screen time, so be on the lookout for that.

You learn most of this in the first few minutes of the film, and yet it takes another 100 minutes or so to sort it out. It would seem the Twilight films despise editors and just as equally vexing is screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg's lack of interest in spicing up the story with any level of wit or intelligence. Most of what is said in Eclipse is so half-hearted, hardly any of it registers as believable. Of course, the actors aren't helping matters much.

I can't say I felt an ounce of emotion from any of the film's leads or believed a word any of them said. Stewart's listless onscreen persona has worn me out. Her open-mouthed, empty stares put me to sleep, bringing the abundance of lengthy and bored dialogue to a screeching halt. Pattinson and Lautner don't help either, something I chalk up more to an assumed lack of interest rather than an absolute lack of talent, though I haven't entirely ruled out the latter.It doesn't stop there. The Volturi scenes were undoubtedly the best part of the previous installment, New Moon, but here they completely phone it in. Led by Dakota Fanning playing the vampire Jane, they look on for most of the film and occasionally deliver monotone impressions of what they are looking at in hopes it comes off as ominous and frightening. Instead they just add to the lifeless story that, like its characters, rarely registers a heartbeat.

Proving director David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) wasn't entirely working on auto pilot, a series of flashbacks aren't all bad and the action sequences do work quite well. However, the flashbacks are relatively inconsequential in that they are used to either telegraph future plot developments or add back stories for characters that simply don't matter. The action gave me a brief reprieve from the tedium with solid choreography, a decent score and a bit of an adrenaline rush, but it wasn't before long everything was dialed back to dull.

The built-in fan base is sure to love Eclipse. Their favorite characters are on the big screen and the emotional core of the story already exists in their hearts, which makes the quality of what's on screen rather inconsequential as long as it sticks close enough to the story they know. There is no problem with this as this is a film made specifically for them, but it simply leaves the rest of us out in the cold. And after three films this is something I've now come to accept. Hopefully with that in mind the next two films will be easier to swallow.

New Delhi, June 21 – First-time director Pravesh Bhardwaj is entering the world of Hindi films with ‘Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta’, a new story on marital infidelity. Releasing Friday, the movie will show how circumstances force married people into relationships outside wedlock.Based in London, the film stars Prashant Narayanan and British-Indian actress Aruna Shields in lead roles along with Lucy Hassan and Naved Aslam. Grammy-nominated sitarist Ustad Shujaat Hussain Khan has composed music for this extramarital saga by UTV Motion Pictures.

The story revolves around two people – Ashwin (Prashant) and Neera (Aruna) who come to know that their respective spouses are cheating on them. Drawn together by shame and anger, they find comfort in their friendship. Though they try not to have any relationship with each other, they end up becoming lovers.As the movie is about cheating spouses, it has a lot of bold scenes including 34 kissing scenes. Thanks to the many smooches, the film has created a lot of buzz. The censor board raised eyebrows over a scene where Aruna sheds her clothes for a painting. However, the movie was later cleared but with an A-certificate.Bhardwaj’s wife Shruti Nagar, who works with Rajshri Productions, is not happy with the overdose of nudity in the film. She has objected to the way the intimate scenes have been picturised.But Bhardwaj insists the low budget film has a lot more to offer than bold scenes.

‘The film is not only about kissing and nude scenes as thought of by many. It has got a lot more to offer like a different story, an unique treatment of the script, performances by the stars and music by Shujaat Husain Khan,’ Bhardwaj told IANS.He is confident the audiences will accept his movie.‘I have tried to portray on reel what happens in real life. I think audiences are mature enough to understand it. This is not the first time when an actress has bared all for a movie. People have accepted it earlier and I am hopeful they will accept it in my film too,’ Bhardwaj said.‘Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta’ is not the first film of lead actors Prashant and Aruna.Prashant, seen on the small screen, was critically acclaimed for his performance in ‘Waisa Bhi hota Hai Part 2′ and also did a role in Ketan Mehta’s controversial period drama ‘Rang Rasiya’. He says working in ‘Mr. Singh Mrs. Mehta’ was challenging.

‘I wanted to do the film as I found the script challenging. Filming for the movie was difficult because it had different requirements. It was not easy to stand in front of a nude woman who I barely knew. It was even uncomfortable for her (Aruna) but at the end we managed to give our best shots,’ Narayanan told IANS.Aruna made her Bollywood debut with Vivek Oberoi-starrer ‘Prince’ in April this year.IANS

The rehabilitation of Tom Cruise continues. After seriously spooking the herd with his off-camera antics a few years ago, he’s rebounded nicely with a series of unpretentious, but well-oiled star vehicles that remind us why we dug him so much in the first place. Knight and Day may be the most enjoyable of the lot: a breezy, throwaway actioner reminiscent of the old Cary Grant/Alfred Hitchcock collaborations… or, more fairly, Roger Moore’s run as James Bond. It fully embraces the glamorous spy fantasy as a means of letting Cruise and costar Cameron Diaz toss cocktail banter at each other.

Though formula it may be, the film still hits all the right notes, courtesy of director James Mangold who has worked successfully in an impressive array of genres. His tonal acumen is absolutely vital here, providing action, danger, romance and comedy in just the right amounts. Part of the fun stems from Cruise’s character--superspy Roy Miller--remaining absolutely unflappable in the face of every conceivable danger. We need to believe in the threat, but also that he doesn’t worry one whit about it. The wrong director or a less capable star would doom the equation, but together, the pair establish a terrifically bubbly atmosphere that holds the line against any threat.

Then there’s Diaz, playing audience surrogate and gal-next-door June Havens. She bumps into Miller at the airport on the way to her sister’s wedding; he slips a super-secret MacGuffin into her bag to get it past security, then joins her on a nearly empty flight to Boston. The sparks fly as they chat over mini tequila bottles. Then June heads to the bathroom and the remaining passengers reveal themselves as assassins bent on icing the two of them. Roy wades into them (and thank God we’ve grown and healed enough as a nation to let good guys kill bad guys at 30,000 feet again), but the plane goes out of control, and… well then we’re off to the races.

Ostensibly, Roy needs to keep the MacGuffin safe from the forces of evil while protecting June from the mess he’s inadvertently involved her in. June discovers a knack for this lifestyle, but still doesn’t like people shooting at her and isn’t sure this charming man of mystery actually works for the right side. All that just serves as the support structure, however. The real purpose of the exercise is watching the two stars radiate charisma at nuclear levels while zipping through exotic locales in high-speed vehicles and dispatching the various faceless mooks arrayed against them.

It’s hardly Shakespeare… and yet it sets itself to the task at hand with considerable wit and grace. It’s not really for the kids either. Despite its status as a summer lark, Knight and Day displays a refreshingly adult approach to the material, with a sophistication and a sense of propriety that anyone above the voting age should appreciate. The slick dialogue rolls right off the two stars’ tongues, driving their romance while eliciting more than the usual amount of laughs in the bargain.

Mangold spends a large amount of energy on the film’s set pieces (hampered by pedestrian CGI but otherwise agreeably flashy), but never lets them detract from the couple at the center of it all, who remain the best reason to check the film out. The heyday of the movie star may have passed, and we’re probably better for it. It keeps vanity projects from spinning out of control and allows good star-free films like The Hangover to prosper. But every now and then, it’s worth remembering why we paid the big bucks to see those names above the marquee. Cruise and Diaz earn their salaries for a reason; Knight and Day succeeds because it doesn’t make them second to the mayhem, handing them a load that they can both shoulder without breaking a sweat

Movie review : There's a new movie coming out, Grown-Ups. Now, no progressive could fail to be thrilled that it will star the comedy stylings of not only noted empath and sensitive comedian Adam Sandler, but also such nuanced and capable actors as Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider. With a cast like that, how could it fail to be a piece of awe-inspiring beauty, of heart-rending insight into the human condition?

Really, I just want to congratulate the director, Dennis Dugan, for assembling this talented ensemble to examine an area of human life which is critically under-examined in modern popular culture: the man-child, and his bromantic relations. This is a sincere, innovative and ultimately uplifting story about five men who behave like children, when freed of the horrid adult-conforming lifestyle which would be forced upon them by humourless bitches, as so often happens.I'm sure some pedantic, humourless feminist "film reviewer" will come along to pan this wonderful film, imposing her hairy-legged man-hating agenda, insisting that there are enough movies about this topic already. Nonsense, I say, NONSENSE! What the world needs is more movies about (white hetero cis currently abled) men (and a sassy Black friend, how post-racial is that, am I rite, bros?), as this is obviously an area which is chronically ignored in our ultra-feminized, post-racial culture.
I urge everyone to camp out to see this movie the instant it opens. In fact, I think we should have a write-in campaign to make them release the movie at midnight of the Thursday, so we don't have to wait all the way to Friday night for it.

Plot Summary: "Grown Ups," starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade, is a comedy about five friends and former teammates who reunite years later to honor the passing of their childhood basketball coach. Jonah Hex has more problems than the film's tormented central character. It's a confusing and poorly shot adaptation of a minor comic-book story that feels days longer than its scant 80-minute running time.Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a bounty hunter asked by President Grant (Aidan Quinn) to stop post-Civil War terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). Hex is up to the task, since it was Turnbull who murdered his family and left him with a horribly scarred face.

In a plot that feels like it was originally planned for The Wild, Wild West 2, Hex must stop Turnbull from levelling Washington, D.C., with a massive new weapon.The script by William Farmer, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor is a jumble of supernatural elements, a love story and selective bits of the comic book. None of the parts is developed enough to be interesting.

It would have helped if Hex's origin hadn't been reduced to a cheesy animated sequence at the beginning. Unlike Spider-Man and Superman, not much is known about the origins of Hex. The film should have been lengthened to reveal more about who he was before he became such a man of mystery.

The convoluted script could be why Brolin looks like he's sleepwalking through the movie. His stiff acting is only made worse by the makeup he wears to portray the scarred hero. He sounds like he's doing a bad Sling Blade impersonation.Megan Fox plays the only one Hex can confide in, a gun-totting prostitute named Lilah. Jonah Hex suggests that prostitution must have been a great profession in the 19th century -- Lilah clearly has the best dental plan of anyone in the movie.Studios are always looking for the next great comic book-inspired franchise. It won't be Jonah Hex.

Roger Nygard’s documentary “The Nature of Existence” is an extreme example of ADD filmmaking. Religious leaders, gurus, shamans, scientists, philosophers, waitresses and cab drivers flash by, giving quotable answers to Mr. Nygard’s big questions: Why do we exist? Is there a God? Is masturbation a sin?The film treads ground covered in films like Diane Keaton’s “Heaven” and James Toback’s “Big Bang.” In that context Mr. Nygard’s sitcom instincts (he has directed episodes of “The Office” and “The Bernie Mac Show”) come in handy. His film is no more profound than its forerunners, but it’s quicker, funnier and less pretentious.

Mr. Nygard is admirably catholic in his choice of subjects, who range across religions and non-religions. (The atheist Richard Dawkins winces after catching himself saying, “God knows.”) The serious commentators tend to flash past the quickest, so that more screen time can be devoted to things like Ultimate Christian Wrestling or the affirmation sandwiches at Cafe Gratitude in the hippie enclave of Fairfax, Calif.One theme that is unaddressed but often visible on screen is the pairing, in the religious-spiritual realm, of smarmy older men and attractive young women. Mr. Nygard himself provides a queasily funny moment when, in a cab late at night, he tells a female Chinese guide-translator, “I hope you dream of a snake tonight.”The most memorable interviewee is not a guru or scientist but the frighteningly articulate seventh-grade girl who lives across the street from Mr. Nygard and tells him through her braces: “I’m going to let you in on a little secret there. There’s no heaven, no hell. You die. Boom, dead. Like a blindfold on your eyes, and you can’t think anymore.”Richard Dawkins had better watch his back.

A family embraces the positive and negative sides of new freedoms fate has brought their way in this drama from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. Edoardo Recchi Sr. (Gabriele Ferzetti) is the patriarch of a wealthy Italian family who've amassed a significant fortune over the years through shrewd investments in manufacturing. Edoardo has a beautiful wife, Allegra (Marisa Berenson), and they have four grown children -- Tancredi (Pippo Delbono), Edoardo Jr. (Flavio Parenti), Gianluca (Mattia Zaccaro) and Elisabetta (Alba Rohrwacher). The family gathers for a reunion at Edoardo and Allegra's villa in Milan, with Tancredi's wife Emma (Tilda Swinton) and Antonio (Edoardo Gabbriellini), a chef planning on going into business with Edoardo, also in attendance. These untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it's all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway. Story: The movie begins with Veera (Vikram), a dreaded don and his men fighting cops and taking away Ragini (Aishjwarya Rai). Ragini's hubby Dev (Prithviraj) is Superintendent of Police in Thirunelveli district who is already behind Veera who has over 60 cases pending against him. But he is ala Robinhood in the forest for his kind heart. Dev is joined by a DSP (John Vijay) and they enter the forest.

Meanwhile, Veera keeps shifting Ragini from one place to another with his elder brother Singam (Prabhu) and younger sibling Sakkarai (Munna) helping him. Ragini even attempts to end her life, but Veera saves her.

Angered at their act, Ragini pours angry words. When she questions as to why he has kidnapped her. An agitated Veera narrates the reason for all his acts that his sister Vennila (Priyamani) will kill by Dev and his colleague.

Ragini starts to sympathise Veera. Veera's younger brother also will kill by police. Now it is all up to an angered Veera to go hammer and tongs and teach a lesson to cops. At one point of time, Veera allows Ragini to go with her husband. But Dev makes sure Ragini meets Veera once again. What is his motive and what happened to Veera is the climax.Analysis: 'Raavanan' will go down in the history of Tamil cinema as one of the finest and best. Cheers to Mani Ratnam for rendering a class movie that is racy and entertaining too.

Villain is a dubbed version of tamil movie "Raavan" and it is about a Raavan (Vikram) who is waiting for a chance to take revenge on a police officer Ram (Prithviraj) who was responsible for the death of his sister.

At the same time Ram gets married to his love Janaki (Aishwarya Rai).But on the very next day of the marriage Raavan kidnaps Janaki and takes her away.

Later Janaki comes to know of the real Ram and falls in love with Raavan. In the end after a fiery duel Raavan Vikram loses to Ram Prithvi. But when Ram wanted to take Janaki back home she refuses to go and stays with Raavan.

Director Mani Ratnam’s latest movie Ravan has been in news since the time he announced it. First the director decided to shoot amidst the beautiful jungles in Kerala and now he has shifted base to Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh.He has just finished shooting for a big-budget song sequence featuring Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan along with 500 dancers.

Raavan Movie Story:
Dev falls in love with Ragini who is a spunky classical dancer and eccentric as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in Lal Maati, a small town in northern India. In this town, the word of law is not the police but Beera, a tribal who has, over the years, shifted the power equation of the place from the verdict to the have-nots of the area. Dev supervises to rip open Beera’s word in one stroke, and set in motion a chain of events which will claim lives, change fortunes. At that time, Beera injured but he engaged hits back starting a battle that draws Dev, Beera and Ragini into the jungle, which is dense, confusing, and scary. In this journey, they must face up to their own truth as a journey which will test their beliefs, convictions and emotions. The forest becomes the battleground the fight between good and evil, between Dev and Beera, between Ram and Raavan. Love is a battle that nobody wins but everyone must battle. A Police Officer, sita’s husband who always thinks negatively does not have the best of relationship with his wife as he is dedicated more to his brother.
