Diwali special savoury snack 1 - Thattai I cant think of an exact translation from the Tamil "Thattai" into English... I guess the closest would be "flatties" or possibly "patties" - because they are patted flat with your fingers into small discs :) Thattais are available all the year round in Indian sweet shops but I think they're much nicer home-made. Some people add bits of coconut (bleagh!) to the dough but - quite apart from my dislike of coconut in certain food items - I think that's a bad idea because the thattais quite soon acquire the flavour of stale coconut. Not good!
Ingredients: 4 cups rice flour 1/2 cup urad dal flour (can be ground at home in a spice/coffee grinder, but sieve it to get the finest powder) 2 htbsp chana dal, soaked for 10 minutes in hot water 1/4 cup butter 1 tsp red chilli powder, or to taste 2 tsp white sesame seeds Salt to taste 10 curry leaves, roughly torn (optional) Water as required Oil for deep-frying
Method: 1. Mix all the ingredients into a fairly stiff dough. 2. Lightly grease a clean plastic sheet. 3. Make small balls (slightly smaller than ping-pong ball size) and pat each one lightly into a circle with your fingers to make the thattais. They should be more or less even all over and approximately 1/4-cm thick. 4. Prick the thattais all over with a fork so that they dont puff up during frying. 5. Heat the oil while you are making about a dozen or so thattais. When a piece of bread dropped in the oil sizzles immediately, it is at the right temperature. 6. Carefully peel the thattais off the plastic sheet one by one and slide them into the oil. Fit in as many as your wok will comfortable take. 7. Fry the thattais on medium heat, turning them over occasionally, until they are golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon on to absorbent paper. 8. Serve as a snack with tea/coffee, etc. Store in an airtight tin.

INGREDIENTS: 2 Tbsp vegetable oil 225g paneer - cut into bite sized pieces 1 Small green pepper - diced 1 Small red pepper - diced 240g tikka masala Sauce 1 tbsp fresh coriander - chopped
PREPARATION: 1. Fry the paneer in the oil, on a low heat until golden brown, remove and drain. 2. Add the peppers and stir-fry until just beginning to soften. 3. Add the sauce and paneer and simmer for 5 minutes. 4. Stir in chopped coriander and serve immediately. Delicious served with warm naan bread, or alternatively serve in wraps with mint or tomato relish or Green Label Mango Chutney.

Baava Full Movie Story:Veera Babu (Siddharth) is a naughty youth who turns out to be a big headache to his village. Unable to bear the torture Veerababu has been creating for them, the villagers tries to send him away from the village. However, Veerababu’s father Seetha Ramudu (Rajendra Prasad) disrupts their plans and Veerababu happily stays back in his village. On one fine morning Veerababu sees Varalakshmi (Praneetha) and fall in love with her in the first sight. Then a saga of scenes in which he tries to impress her follows. Finally, Varalakshmi reciprocates to Veerababu’s love. But by that time her elders fix her marriage with another person (Santosh Samrat). When Varalakshmi tells Veerababu about her marriage plans, he marries her then and there in a temple. Seeta Ramudu comes to know about this marriage and tells Veerababu that Varalakshmi is his cousin. He reveals that Veerababu’s mother is none other than Varalakshmi father’s (Ahuti Prasad) sister. He also says that marrying someone without their family’s will is a mistake. Seetaramudu asks Veerababu to not to repeat that mistake and only hold Varalakshmi’s hand with her parents will. Yaksha Kannada Movie Review: It is a dream role for Yogish (Loose Mada) to be acting along with Nana Patekar in his home production. For those eager what Nana plays in the film; one, he is a super cop, second he plays Yogish’s father as well . That should be enough of spice to get audience more interested about perhaps Yogish’s biggest film till date.The film also has many other things going for it. The songs, which have been shot in a very stylish manner rather than the ‘tapang’ style of his earlier films are already a sensation. They look awesome on the big screen. Yogish has also considerably changed his mannerisms in the film and does not come across as the ‘too local’ image of his. He proves that he can look and act the mod guy.
Coming to the story, Yogish plays Yaksha Raj Pulikeshi, a college student. But Yaksha is more interested in reading about underworld dons. He takes a liking to Poonja, (Atul Kulkarni) an underworld don. He makes much effort to become his assistant because he wants to be ‘powerful’ like him. He joins his gang and becomes the don’s favourite as well. He begins to do the dirty job for the don and kills many opponents.When his mother, brother and grandfather come to know that Yaksha is working for a don, they are upset. Yaksha had wrongly informed them that he worked in a coffee shop. But there is an hidden truth. Yaksha is not working for the don. He has joined him only to eliminate him. The flashback reveals the true story of Yaksha and his father Pulikeshi (Nana Patekar). Nana makes for an inspiring screen presence. The roles of Komal, Master Hirannaiah and Kishore are also noteworthy. Though Atul Kulkarni has more screen time, Nana Patekar steals the show in the last one hour.
Yaksha is a worthy effort by TP Siddaraju the producer and a commendable work by director Ramesh Bhagavat. Imran Sardaria’s choreography of three songs is a treat to the eyes as is the music by Anoop Seelin and camerawork by Chandra Shekar. A film that is sure to endear Yogish to his fans more.

Bill Nighy plays hermetic, near silent and sexually confused assassin Victor Maynard who – via a series of unlikely events – must turn protector to brassy kleptomaniac Emily Blunt and pot-bonging naif Rupert Grint. The actors do the best with what they’re given – it’s just a shame they’ve been given so little. The script is free of either zingers or insight, the inertia of the story is constantly stalled by deviation (including a superfluous homoerotic vignette which appears to be a cheap excuse to show Grint in the nud) and entire characters – including the ‘baddie’ of the piece, Rupert Everett – are left to fade into the background. Nothing feels like it’s been properly thought through, highlighted by the fact that Nighy’s ‘super assassin’ goes about his business by merely opening fire on a crowded market place (using a silencer, of course!).

Welcome to the Rileys (2010)Movie Review :If you’re going to make a straight drama with zero bells and whistles, you better have a very fascinating story up your sleeve. Writer Ken Hixon may have developed a unique dysfunctional family film with curiously troubled characters, but on screen, much of that interest is extinguished by a lack of emotion, awkward relationships and primarily the film’s sluggish pace.
Doug Riley (James Gandolfini) isn’t a happy guy. He lost his only child in a car accident, his wife Lois (Melissa Leo) is agoraphobic and his only real solace comes from an extramarital affair with a diner waitress. While in New Orleans for a business conference, Doug just can’t get with it. Rather than adhere to the schedule, he ditches the convention and heads straight for a local strip club. That’s where he meets Mallory (Kristen Stewart), a supposedly 22-year-old stripper he winds up taking home and spending the night with. No, not for any dirty business, but just to be nice.
The next morning Doug awakes not to rush off to work, but to get to the store to buy the tools necessary to refurbish Mallory’s dilapidated abode. As the days go on the two begin to develop a father-daughter-like relationship with the exception of the fact that Doug pays Mallory $100 for every day he stays with her. Then again, the fact that he docks her a dollar for every F-bomb she drops, puts the connection right back into daddy-daughter territory. Meanwhile, back at home, Lois is desperately trying to overcome her fears and drive down to New Orleans to reunite with her husband.
Director Jake Scott gives you a taste of what to except in the very first sequence; a dreary display of an empty Doug running through the usual motions, card game with the guys, waffles at the diner, alone time with his waitress, Vivian (Eisa Davis), and then home to Lois. Even when he’s all cozy with Vivian, there’s a dismal lifelessness to Doug and even when he does perk up after meeting Mallory, that gloomy atmosphere always remains.
As far as the story goes, the raincloud that follows Doug wherever he goes is quite effective and paints a far more realistic picture. This is a guy who’s been suffering for the past eight years with the loss of his 15 year-old daughter; just because he finds a replacement doesn’t mean he’s going to walk around with a big grin on his face and Gandolfini does a fantastic job keeping Doug’s emotions in check. He isn’t moping around the entire film, but never seems particularly happy either. If you can get past that somber tone, the sole issue with his performance is his relationship with Stewart.
They’re certainly not supposed to just fall into a father and daughter scenario, for Mallory rebels against the notion and there’s a sense that Doug recognizes that that wouldn’t be right, but they’re a bit too cold. It’s hard to believe they really care for one another. Leo highlights this issue when she shares just a few minutes with Stewart alone on screen and garners far more passion than we’ve seen between Gandolfini and Stewart the first hour of the film. Unfortunately, other than a few particularly memorable moments, Leo is largely wasted in a primarily absent role.
As for Stewart, she’s okay. She does what’s required of her, which isn’t much of a stretch from her typical moody characters, but there still is something that doesn’t quite work. Both she and Gandolfini put on above average performances, but they just don’t jibe well and between the two, that causes Gandolfini’s performance to far overshadow Stewart’s. Gandolfini’s character is so subtle and Stewart’s so over the top, dropping every dirty word imaginable in a single sentence, that she can seem like she’s trying too hard. Their relationship and Stewart’s character don’t feel as natural as they could be, but their situation is interesting and innovative enough that you’re still interested in their circumstances.
However, even with that curiosity, the good performances and adequate filmmaking all around, Welcome to the Rileys is just plain old boring. As much as you may want to pay attention and go along with Doug for the ride, things get so slow, it’s hard to keep your mind from wandering. Combine that issue with the grim subject matter and you wind up with a film that’s too difficult to enjoy.

‘Hisss’ revolves around a snake woman Nagin (Mallika Sherawat) who is out for revenge as her mate has been captured by an American hunter.
